A 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa is sold for .4 million at the Gooding & Co. sale Monterey, California. This exclusive model was built in 1957 and 1958, and there was 22 such cars in the pipeline all in all.
The previous world record for 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa was in May 2009 in an auction at Ferrari's Maranello home in Italy which fetched €9 million euro (,2 million). Тhe name of the buyer was not divulged, and the car was purchased via phone-only mode. Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa has 12-cilinder engine of 300 h.p. the maximum speed of which is 270 km per hour. The Testa Rossa car helped establish the image and allure of Ferrari the world over, and the word combination is translated as "red head," and is in reference to the car's familiar cylinder-head red colour.
Several factors made the car especially appealing to bidders and helped it fetch the high price. First, it has a racing record stretching over several years that includes top tracks in 10 out of 19 racing competitions and well-known drivers. It also underwent a top-notch restoration and won a best-in-class award at the Pebble Beach Concours in 2006. It has a well-documented ownership history and is certified by Ferrari’s Classiche department for authenticity. This is the kind of car that gets its owner invited to the top vintage-racing and show events around the world.
Hargerty Vintage Vehicles Insurance president announced that the bid was not the highest possible one as during a private auction the vehicle cost might be increased twice as much. The name of the buyer is not available so far. Gooding & Co got commissions at 10% of the vehicle sold price. All news
