Toyota is recalling about 209,000 of its FJ Cruiser from the 2007–2013 model years in the USA because of a problem involving seat belt retractors.
The problem stems from the FJ Cruiser's pillarless door opening design that has the front-occupant seatbelts attached to the rear doors. Toyota says that when the rear doors are "repeatedly and forcefully closed," the retractor could completely separate from the door frame. Toyota, though, says that there have been no accidents or injuries associated with this issue so far.
FJ Cruiser has been developed in retro style and may be associated with another Toyota SUV – Land Cruiser – developed in the 1960-s.
Firstly it was intended to produce limited edition vehicles but the model became so much sought for that the automaker began its serial production.
